Local Interiors: The Posey Home

We are really excited to feature a local interior that is as inspiring as it is darling. Artist, Ama Posey, lives in Chico with her partner, Sam, and two munchkins, Bjorn and Ula. Somewhere in between finishing up her degree, keeping a blog (Hygge – All Things Truly Good), and chasing after her kiddos, she’s managed to create a warm modern space where her family grows happily.

Here’s what she has to say about her home:

When designing our wee little home (500ish sq. ft.), the most important thing to us is that it’s cozy. We are infinitely inspired by the Danish concept of “Hygge” (hu-gah)—something we strive to embrace both as a family, and in our home. Hygge is a feeling or mood from taking genuine pleasure in making ordinary objects and experiences simply extraordinary. Hygge is about creating an environment that is pleasant and simple, with consciousness and authenticity. It reinvents the way of life as an art form, using simple daily rituals as a place for creativity and effort— such as bringing fresh flowers home from the farmers market every week, having friends over for a candlelit dinner, or creating a technology-free nook in your home, adorned with twinkle lights, that is exclusively for quite activities.

Our home is a place where we not only spend time together and live our lives, but it’s where we form our ideas and inspirations– where magic happens and where our creativity is nurtured. Home is where we go to unwind; where we invite guests to share this beautiful life with us; and where we love one another and grow together. With two little kiddos, we try to make our home a place to let their minds and imaginations run wild.

When bringing a new piece into our home we search for things that are both minimal and unique—in a world of so much over-stimulation, we need our space to be a place to relax and unwind, but also a place that inspires us. We try to keep out the clutter by only adding things to our home that we truly love. Overall, we want our home to embody order, simplicity, creativity, and beauty – Hygge!
